[[Summary]]
You run through the crumbling streets, as if running for your precious life. You don’t know what’s happened here, but the scenes make you curious. The lamp posts flicker, and then they suddenly go out. You wonder where the people are, and where your own master is. You look around, panting, but there are no people in sight. You keep runnin, and you never want to stop. You keep jumping the ruined blocks of the nearby buildings. You breathe in the cold, lifeless air. You can’t be the only one here can you?
Don’t stop. Just keep running.
You keep running. You don’t know why the air smells of death and sickness, but you don’t want to figure out. You just keep running. You wonder why you’re here and where everyone is at again. You don’t know what to do so you keep running. You run block after block, but you don’t recognize anything. So you keep runnin’. You’re not sure what you’re exactly looking for, but you keep running anyway. You run for your missing master, and your dead ancestors, but most importantly, you run for your life.
I must stop. I’m panting and my breath is getting weaker.
You can’t take the pain of being alone, and you do make your feet stop at some point. You started to canter, then you trotted, then you fell into a nice easy walk. You gradually slowed to a stop, and your tongue lolled out of your mouth, and you began to pant like you’ve never breathed a day in your life. You don’t know what’s going on, but you feel like you can’t run anymore. You can’t keep running, even if it’s for your life, but you argue with yourself. You know you have to, but you don’t want to. There’s nothing here, and there’s nothing left for you, but that’s where you’re wrong.
No, I can’t stop. I need to know what’s going on.
You put your forepaw forward, hesitation filling your mind, but you don’t listen to it. You’re listening to a strong force. Your heart. Your heart starts to pump wildly in your chest, it is cheering you on, so you walk a little faster. Just the tiniest bit, until you’re in a run, and your heart starts to cheer keep runnin’ again. You push yourself until your lungs feel on fire, but it doesn’t stop you because your heart is still cheering you on. But you now have another force, pulling on your confidence, and you stop. You stop right outside of an open gate.
Don’t you dare enter. Any moment might be your last, for you don’t know what’s in there.
You want to listen to your heart now, but the stronger force lures you through the open gate and it slams shut behind you. You look back, but your paws continue to move towards a lime-green home, and near it you see a dog house. Connected to the doghouse, is a chain, and then you remembered where you are and what happened here. You remember the days you spent on the chain. You remember how you were left behind as a deadly plague gripped your master’s life and took it from her. You remember seeing her lie on the floor dead, but you were on the chains then. You had to watch her die from the chains, and now you’re out of them and you’re free. It is best you run away. After all, you are Off the Chains.
Let’s leave it that way Shall we?.
